Mortal Kombat boss Ed Boon has teased the return of one of the great pleasures of playing Mortal Kombat over all these years, ripping an already beaten opponent to shreds as he wobbles about drunkenly with character specific Fatalities.
MKX Will Have No DC Characters, Kiefer Sutherland, Maybe Freddy Krueger?
Boon told IGN at GamesCom: "For those who are familiar with [Mortal Kombat], [we] first had the Fatality and we added a Babality. We had the Friendship moves, Brutality moves and all of these crazy things over the years. [...] We are going to be reinstating an 'Ality' from a previous game into Mortal Kombat X. And I can't wait to be able to talk about it but at the moment I can't."
No exact confirmation on the return of fatalities, but wouldn't it be really strange if they introduced ANY of the other "Alities" before that one?
Raiden's Three Variant Outfits & Power Sets From MKX Revealed
Boon also had to disappoint Marvel vs. Capcom fans: "There currently isn't a Mortal Kombat versus project in the works. There's a nostalgia side of me that would love to see a Mortal Kombat vs. Street Fighter, if we were allowed to make an M-rated game. There's a novelty to that. But the chances of that happening are pretty low. It is a possibility but not a probability."
On the storyline and setting, Boon had this to say: "There are periods that are directly after MK9, then there are periods that are five, ten, 15 and 20 years out. A lot of the events take place 25 years after where we see older versions of the characters, like Cassie Cage and all that. But it does jump around in time; it's not a linear thing."
