Facebook Aiming To Fight Back Against Click-Baiting Articles On Newsfeeds

You will never believe what Facebook is doing about click-baiting, spammy content.

The site plans to roll out several updates that make it harder for publishers to push content mill articles to your newsfeed. You're on notice, Upworthy and Thought Catalog.

Click-bait, as Facebook sees it, is a post from a publisher with a title and photo that tantalize but don't provide any real information about what users will see once they click on the link. By poking your curiosity, these links tend to drive a lot of traffic but oftentimes don't satisfy a real need--and some might say they actively make the internet more stupid.

Facebook surveyed users when it made the decision to deliver this new and improved newsfeed.

"When we asked people in an initial survey what type of content they preferred to see in their News Feeds, 80% of the time people preferred headlines that helped them decide if they wanted to read the full article before they had to click through," the post on the social media site's blog stated.

This being the internet, and considering your eyeballs are worth millions to advertisers, the click-baiters will probably find a way to sharpen their hook. However, like Google's infamous Panda update which stopped rewarding digital content farms with clicks, the update could make for a cleaner, higher-quality newsfeed.
