The battle for humanity heats up and gamers are placed right smack in the middle of a robot invading war set in the year 2080. Players begin their journey in the urban city of Tokyo as agents of a worldwide peace keeping unit. The third person shooter is mostly action but also includes elements of RPG.
As the protagonist in the game develops, so does its teammates, depending on how they are treated. Binary Domain introduces a new ingredient to its gameplay called a Consequence System. Gamers have the ability to voice out commands to their virtual team members. Depending on the tone or delivery of communication throughout the game, relationships among team members will be affected. Team members who develop a bad relationship with the player may tend to disobey or ignore orders during combat.
Players who provide encouragement to teammates will find that the members will respond more proactively during battle. Setting off relationships with terse comments can promote animosity and disconnect when team play is needed. The relationship aspect of the game adds a refreshing spin on a visually compelling action title.
