Walmart has dropped its price of the iPhone 5C to less than a dollar. The chain is apparently attempting to move out its excess units in order to make room for the new iPhone 6, which will probably be announced early next month and available soon after.

Walmart told CNET that it is dropping the price of the iPhone 5C to 97 cents. The iPhone 5S is seeing a price slash, too, going to $79. Previously, the 5C costs $29 and the 5S cost $99. The colorful 5C will be available in their whole sparkling rainbow, while the 5S will be available in its white, black and gold color schemes.
Of course, the prices only apply when customers sign a two year contract with AT&T, Verizon, Sprint or US Cellular.

The deep discounted prices are another annual tradition pointing to an upcoming iPhone release. Target, Best Buy and Walmart all usually drop prices on last year's version so they'll have the shelf space for the new, exciting phones. Last year at this time, for example, prices for the iPhone 5 were cut deep when Apple announced the upcoming 5S and 5C. Most of the time, Apple drops the prices on the old phone anyway as well.
Rumors for the iPhone 6 are building, with different images and specs leaking over the past few months, including some really strong glass possibly made out of sapphire. However, there is plenty of conflicting information and Apple hasn't made anything official.
