Square Enix announced that they will be working hard on their latest title 'Sleeping Dogs." The news has downed any rumors that the company's next game was a Kane and Lynch sequel.
Sleeping Dogs, previously entitled True Crime: Hong Kong, was last worked on by Activision. But the company later decided to invest its interests elsewhere and dropped the project. Square Enix has purchased the development rights and will work with United Front Games in developing Sleeping Dogs, bringing it back from the dead.
Similar to the Hong Kong movie Infernal Affairs and Martin Scorcese's The Departed, the game stars Shen Wei, a Hong Kong undercover cop who must infiltrate one of the largest gang organizations on earth. The gameplay involves Wei to collaborate with police forces from the outside, but mesh into the crime ring activities at the same time.
One can expect to see internal confrontations as the character mentally copes with loyalty and betrayal in a cop and robbers game. The graphics already looks very impressive as Sleeping Dogs begins with the character immersed in the crowded world of Hong Kong Island. An over populated city is lit with neon lights, night life activity, and open street markets. As the story develops deeper with each undercover mission, Shen Weil slowly begins to reflect on his own motives.
Sleeping Dogs is scheduled for an August 2012 release. It will be available on PC, Xbox 360, and PlayStation 3. Check out the first trailer of Sleeping Dogs below.
