Legend of Zelda Majora's Mask Fan Remake Video Surfaces, Creators Want To Show It To Nintendo

New video has surfaced of a fan recreation of The Legend of Zelda: Majora's Mask, showing off some impressive graphics that are meant to be shown to Nintendo, not used in a playable remake.

The video, below, doesn't have direct gameplay segments or clips, but shows off various assets and character models that the creators hope to present to Nintendo, according to the video's description. The creators claim no credit for the assets and declare no intent:

"All the creative content of this project has been inspired in "The Legend of Zelda: Majora's Mask", whose license is owned by Nintendo. None of the materials of the original game have been employed either for the development or the finishing of this project. This interactive project is intended to be neither a commercial product or a remake of the game.

"None of the material published about this project brings any benefit to its creators. This work has been created by fans for fans, but its ultimate purpose is to be presented to Nintendo Co. (They will be the owners of the commercial-economic decisions.)"

Nintendo generally isn't too accepting of fan projects using its characters or assets, and though this project never claimed to be a straight remake when it was first shown off two years ago or again in the new video, it doesn't do much to differentiate itself from the original property. It displays the same name and logo at the end without mention of what it is, and though the description clearly states the creators' intentions, I'm not sure Nintendo will ultimately care.

These artists hope to inspire Nintendo with their presentation, but I expect Nintendo's own plans will trump this project. Still, what we do see is impressive and looks good, even if it likely isn't coming to the public. It's being built for the 3DS like Nintendo's Ocarina of Time remake, and most believe an official Majora's Mask from Nintendo on the system is inevitable as well.
