Director Mark Romanek has been brought on board to helm the long gestating prequel to Stanley Kubrick's 1980 film The Shining.
Angry Video Game Nerd: The Movie Out Next Week
The film has been in the work for some time, though many people, myself included, have called it unnecessary. The original book by Stephen King and the film are two of the greats of their respective media. The inclusion of Romanek, however, is an absolutely perfect choice for the project.
Children who came of age in the 90s will know Romanek as the 'guy who directed every single one of your favorite music videos'. 'Closer' by Nine Inch Nails? Romanek. '99 Problems? Romanek. 'Scream' by MJ? That's him. He also directed what is perhaps the single most emotionally charged video of all time: Johnny Cash's 'Hurt'. The man has one of the best eyes in the business.

Romanek has also directed two feature films, 2002's One Hour Photo with Robin Williams and in 2010 he also directed the utterly heartbreaking drama Never Let Me Go. Many of his projects have languished in development hell or have been taken out from under him, such as the Benicio del Toro remake of The Wolfman. Tell me that the guy who made Closer wouldn't have made an awesome Wolfman film?
The Shining prequel, titled Overlook Hotel, is being penned by Glenn Mazzara, the former executive producer of The Walking Dead. The film will focus on the hotel's first owner, Bob Watson as he deals with the supernatural elements that overtake his new business. The film will be based slightly on the unpublished prologue the King novel originally possessed.
Overlook Hotel will be out in 2015.
