ATLUS today has published the latest game from ACE Team, the brilliant-yet-insane creators of Zeno Clash. Abyss Odyssey isn't a surreal 3D adventure game that features first-person melee fighting, though, it's a roguelike side-scroller, a game that offers you new challenges every time you play.
ATLUS Confirms Persona 4 Arena Ultimax Won't Be Region Locked
It's completely out of their wheelhouse but no less confident and wodnerful. Abyss Odyssey lets you team up with friends in local or online co-op and hunt for loot, searching lower and lower into the depths of procedurally generated dungeons. There's some real RPG flavor to the game but it will still feel familiar to fans of ACE Team, especially in the strange and otherworldly character design.
If you haven't seen it, the official website is absolutely brilliant, giving you information in the game while also letting you play a browser game that gives you an idea of how it plays. Check it out right here.
Shovel Knight: The NES Gets One Last Incredible 8-Bit Platform Game
Just recently ACE Team announced that they have added a PVP version to the PC version, which will allow four players to fight it out in local battles. That's only for launch- online multiplayer is in the works. As you capture enemies in the campaign they'll become unlockable in the Versus mode, encouraging you to get as many as you can.
We checked out Abyss Odyssey at E3 and were really impressed with what we saw. The combat is fun, the characters different enough to force you to completely change up your play-style. It's definitely one to watch out for and thankfully you won't have to wait any more.
The game is currently available for PS3 and PC for $14.99, and will hit Xbox 360 tomorrow, July 16. The game will be on sale for 30% off for PS3 owners (although Europeaon ones need PS Plus to get the discount, for some reason) for a week. Xbox 360 will get 33% off for one week after release as well. So if you're going to, jump in quickly.
