Bandai Namco would like to extend a solemn invitation to the latest episode of Tekken, the ongoing saga of the Mishimas, the family that punches together yet doesn't stay together. Or they do, depending on how you look at it.
"Persona 4 Arena Ultimax Will Be Best Fighting Game Of E3" Says Atlus
At this weekend's EVO Championships, the largest and longest-running fighting game tournaments in the world, Bandai Namco officially announced Tekken 7 with a teaser trailer. The trailer shows Kazumi meditating in a family temple, pondering how she will stop Heihachi, the series' long-standing, double-peak-haired, ever-rejuvenating main villain. You know you're bad if Cary Hiroyuki-Tagawa plays you in the movie.
Persona 4 Arena Ultimax Will Be Region Free
The trailer ends with a title card promising this will be "the final battle" before fading out on a carving on a wooden surface saying "Heihachi and Kazumi". Can an old love be rekindled, perhaps explored in a spin-off Oh! My Magical Tekken Waifu? I mean, just like Friday the 13th parts IV and IX weren't exactly the final chapter and Friday, respectively, nobody's really expecting this to be the final game, right?
Tekken 7 is running off the Unreal Engine 4. No platforms have as of yet been announced for the seventh installment of the main Tekken series, though PS4 and Xbox One seem pretty likely. Game director and exec producer Katsuhiro Harada has praised the Unreal Engine 4 for its adaptability and ease of use: "Not only is Unreal Engine 4 powerful and easy to use, but it allows us to immediately bring Tekken 7 to any platform we desire." Good news indeed!
Unreal Engine 4 has been publicly available as a $19 a month developer's subscription, well-known for its scalability across PC, console and mobile platforms, cutting-edge graphics technology and first-class toolset.
Unlike JJ Abrams and Star Wars, Bandai Namco will be bringing Tekken 7 to San Diego Comic Con this July 25 to reveal more details, probably including release platforms. Come onnnnn, Wii U!
