Ubisoft's Watch Dogs has shipped 8 million units, the publisher announced in its quarterly financial report.
Watch Dogs Posted Ubisoft's Best First-Day Sales Ever
While it should be noted that units shipped to retailers is not the same as copies sold (and will inherently be a bit higher as not every copy in stores has been purchased), it's certainly an impressive total in a relatively short span.
"Watch Dogs is now well positioned as a major franchise and we will be able to replicate and build on its success in the coming years," Ubisoft CEO and co-founder Yves Guillemot said in the company's report. "Its sales performance testifies to Ubisoft's expertise as a creator of blockbuster brands."

When the game was released in May, it became Ubisoft's fastest-selling title ever, posting the best first-24 hour numbers of any game the publisher had launched before. Just one week into its life cycle, the title reached 4 million copies sold. This secured the future of the franchise, with clear plans to release further entries.
"With such strong sales momentum and positive feedback from gamers, Watch Dogs has positioned itself as the must-have game of the moment" said Tony Key, Ubisoft's senior vice president of sales and marketing said at the time. "We're really proud of this achievement, and are confident that the Watch Dogs brand has a promising future."
This latest number will only bolster Ubisoft's support of the franchise, which was certainly helped by spreading across both last and current generation consoles. The next Watch Dogs title is likely at least a year away, but you should definitely expect to see more from the series eventually.
