‘Lords of the Fallen’ Release Date Officially Announced: The 'Next-Gen Dark Souls' Joins Crowded Month Of Games [VIDEO]

Gaming October Crowds Up Some More With Lords of the Fallen

This fall, fall and get up again. And again. And again. Good name for this game, guys!

GameNGuide's Exclusive Lords of the Fallen Preview

In the words of Busta Rhymes in that quintessential holiday classic Halloween: Resurrection: "Ay Mikey! Happy ******* Halloween!" For all you Dark Souls lovers out there, CI Media and Bandai Namco have got a special treat for ya (but also a trick, depending on how you look at it) on October 31. Lords of the Fallen will hit PC, PS4 and Xbox One.

Now, with Dragon Age and all that other hot action-adventure RPG mess coming out around then, you'd think this is a bad time for a franchise first. Sequels do tend to oversell their first entries. But with their Edge of Tomorrow flavored advertising, I think Lords of the Fallen might have a good shot at distinguishing themselves from the crowd.

Trailer With Developer's Commentary

The "Challenge" trailer embedded below shows you nothing but a highly armored warrior going into an ancient structure, opening a gate and facing a monster one-on-one. The music and framing of the warrior builds him up as a badass convincingly. So when the monster basically smashes him in one go, you're somewhat taken aback as a viewer. That's not the stuff trailers show! Trailers show the power fantasy! They shouldn't show the stuff that actually happens as I play!

But then... it keeps going. And going. And the tempo of editing increases steadily, amping you up to see that darn monster finally get his - tapping into that age-old feeling of player frustration at particularly hard (mini)boss. Plus, European developers are at an all-time high right now so, like Calvin Candie, they have my curiosity and attention.
