Critically acclaimed retro 2D platformer Shovel Knight doesn't just take you back to your childhood in a gaming sense, it also brings back the old days of laughing at the word "butt" in newly discovered "Butt Mode".
'Shovel Knight' 3DS Review: The NES Gets One Last Incredible 8-Bit Platform Game
As our very own Alex Riviello here has already laid out in his review, Shovel Knight is a blast definitely worthy of your time. Butt if you weren't convinced of that by just his expert analysis, allow the good people of Yacht Club Games to rectify your mistake. Once you enter butt mode, all oft-repeated nouns (such as "magic", "health", "knight", etc.) are simply replaced by the word "butt". Baron Von Strucker was right: we truly live in the age of miracles!
With over 300 cheat codes to choose from - from the standard "god mode"-style ones to accessing certain armors or weapons before their appointed time to sillier ones like glorious Butt Mode - the cheeky chappies at Yacht Club have certainly allowed Shovel Knight to provide a varied gameplay diet for those of you who feel a bit clogged with boring AAA releases. As if to punish you for such buttfoonery, however, you cannot gain any in-game achievements (or "Feats", as Shovel Knight calls them) while any type of cheat codes are active.
A full list of cheat codes can be found in this Google Doc, although you probably just need the one where you enter X&BUTT into the name registry. I will leave it up to you, dear reader, to find out which one it is!
