Polish tech outfit mepi have built an Oculus Rift/GoPro combo device that allows you to experience reality from outside your body. Take a walk in third-person mode, in real life!
You've certainly walked around in Skyrim or New Vegas in third-person mode so you could admire your handiwork after hours of fiddling with the sliders during character creation (notice how I'm saying Skyrim and not Oblivion here? Might as well have put your cat on a keyboard and poured water over it during character creation during Oblivion, for all the attractiveness that you managed to wring out of that!). Well, time to start adjusting the sliders on your real body, because third-person view has arrived to our world!
Oculus Rift Helps An Elderly Woman Walk Outside One Last Time Using Tuscany Demo [VIDEO]
After the wonderful loveliness of the Witcher series, Poland just keeps dazzling us with amazing virtual worlds. Now you can turn your backyard into Kaer Morhen or Nilfgaard thanks to the crafty tinkering gnomes over at mepi who have fashioned the extraordinary device you can see in the video below.
Using an Oculus Rift and two GoPros mounted on a 3D-printed (yeah, they're really going for the tech geek trifecta here) rig, mepi managed to create a headset that allows you to look at yourself as you have gazed upon so many Batmen, Geralts or self-crafted avatars in virtual lands.
Check out the video below and sound off in the comments with your estimation of third-person time you can log before getting sick, either motion sickness or disgust at having to look at your own body, atrophied by years of controlling previously mentioned characters!
