Long gone are the days when a game was developed by just one person. Nowadays, game developers have studios that rival Hollywood, with acting, FX, writing and a whole host of other departments. No studio appears more like the film industry than Sledgehammer games, which is giving us a Behind the Scenes look into the animation and art direction of their highly anticipated Call of Duty: Advanced Warfare.
Clash of Clans Updates The King And Queen At Last
The video is done with the care and aplomb of a major blockbuster, which is precisely what the game is. There's moody music, dramatic lighting and very important things being said. In it, Animation Director Christopher Stone talks about the motion capture technology used in the game, which rivals that of Avatar in many ways. Not content to just record the face, the team at Sledgehammer wants to give the game's characters "expressions and muscles shapes" for a more photorealistic design.
Stone speaks highly of Kevin Spacey, who gets to run around and be all Frank Underwood in a mocap suit. It's an unintentionally hilarious image, one of our greatest actors all dressed up in a black suit with tiny white balls sticking on him. One cannot argue with the effect, though. Spacey's character Irons looks damn impressive. I think it's safe to say that he's the bad guy, Spacey is just so good as one, but we won't know for sure until the game hits shelves.
A Titanfall Single Player Campaign Less And Less Likely
On the art department side of things, Art Director Joe Salud approached the weapon and costume design from a perspective of "legitimately military and relatability." The new weapons will be futuristic tech but will be grounded in modern devices from other Call of Duty games. Plus, there's a cloaking device, and those are always awesome.
"We did whatever we could to make the game as photorealistic as possible," said Salud.
