The votes have been counted, and at tonight's NHL Awards in Las Vegas, EA Sports has announced which athlete will be gracing the cover.

Millions of fans supported the player of their choice on Twitter and the game's official website, but it was Bergeron who edged the voting and will appear on every copy of NHL 15 sold.
Cover votes aren't the most serious topics, of course, but fans love to see their team's player on the cover of EA's game nonetheless, especially if they can beat out a rival team to get there. In this instance of Bruins vs. Canadiens, that was certainly the case.

Twitter was a particular source of entertainment over the course of the voting, with the official accounts of NHL teams making deals to support one player or the other and fans creating photoshopped images of each player to spur on more votes.
I personally vouched for Subban, as I thought he would be a good fit for a cover athlete regardless of my personal thoughts as a Rangers fan. He's already a divisive figure while being very talented--winning last season's Norris Trophy--and he helped carry his team to Game 7 of the Stanley Cup Playoffs this season (where I can happily say his team was eliminated by the Rangers).
It was, however, Bergeron who walked away with the win. The center is a very effective two-way forward, winning the Selke Trophy at the league's award show tonight, and is regarded as one of the best defensive forwards in the game. Both players helped Team Canada earn gold at the Olympics this winter, and this truly was a contest between two of the best in their respective positions. Apologies to everyone who did not want to see a Bruin on the cover of your game, but congratulations to Bergeron and Bruins fans!
