Xbox One owners who pick up Sniper Elite III next week, take heed. You're going to have to do a little spring cleaning beforehand. The game's developer, Rebellion, announced that there will be a mandatory 10 gig install on day one.
Sniper Elite V2 Free Download Day Nets 2 Million New Users
Day one patches are nothing new. What is new is the sheer size of the patch, which is practically the size of the entire game itself. In an interview with Eurogamer, Rebellion stated that, "The main part of the update is to sync data between the game's retail discs and the Xbox Live digital download edition of the game. In the several weeks between sending the code off to manufacture and release, rather than sit around or take a break, we've continued to work on the game, making improvements and optimizations."
For those keeping track at home, that puts the game's mandatory install at just around 19 gigs. The Xbox One comes pre-installed with a 500 gig hard-drive, so 20 gigs is not the end of the world, but it is still a sizable chunk of space. What matters more is internet connectivity. European gamers with slow internet connections should not expect to be playing it come June 27, while us North Americans and our sabotaged, abysmally slow connections can expect to not play it July 1.

"While we understand gamers will be frustrated at the wait," Rebellion said, "the good news is that the update will actually reduce the size of the game's total install footprint on their hard drive, and reduce the size of future patches significantly.
"It's part of this ongoing optimisation process that's enabled Sniper Elite 3 to perform well at a native 1080p on both Xbox One and PS4. We appreciate everyone's patience and we firmly believe Sniper Elite 3 will be worth the wait!"
This particular Day one patch will apply only to Xbox One owners; players who purchase the game on PS4, PS3 or Xbox 360 can expect much smaller updates. The install also only applies to first back of retail, physical versions. Gamers who acquire the game via the Xbox Marketplace will not have to download anything extra.
The PC version, of course, has no updates. You can pre-order Sniper Elite III on Steam here.
