'Mortal Kombat X' New Characters D'Vorah & Ferra/Torr Star In Latest Pics, See Boon's 'New Favorites' [IMAGES, VIDEO]

New Screens Show D'Vorah's Softer Side, and Give a Better Look at Ferra/Torr

We're at six characters so far for Mortal Kombat X and instead of announcing more, developer NetherRealm Studios is instead offering better looks at the current roster. New pics are out showing off the first two new characters, the swarm queen D'Vorah, and the duo Ferra/Torr. Check 'em out below!

MK Creator Ed Boon Talks Mortal Kombat X's Frame Rate, Picture Resolution, and Dismisses Rumors of Kiefer Sutherland's Involvement

NetherRealms provided the pics via the official Mortal Kombat Facebook page, and heeded players to "Beware the Swarm!" of D'Vorah, and called the combination of Torr and pilot Ferra as "Brutality and the beast!"

MK creator Ed Boon has described the two characters as his new favorites. There's not much background on them yet, or any others for that matter, but here's what we do know.

Is Friday the 13th's Jason Voorhees a Possible Character for Mortal Kombat X?

Like so many other previous Mortal Kombat fighters, D'Vorah definitely isn't human. In fact, she's probably closer to insect than anything else, as evidenced by the horns on her shoulders, and the set of wings on her back. She also uses a number of different bugs in her special moves, and at least one of her fatalities. Boon described her as "kinda like a half-insect half-human being and she's got these great stingers that she uses in combat. So much fun to play." You can see her finisher in the video below at the 6:00 mark.

Ferra/Torr is by far one of the more original MK characters, owed to the fact that they're actually two characters. They work well in tandem, but can deal damage even if they're separated. As you might've guessed, Torr does the heavy lifting with monster blows, while Ferra is about lightning quick slicing and dicing with some Wolverine style gauntlets. You can see how well they work together by checking out their X-Ray move in the video below at the 6:02 mark, and their fatality at 14:30.

If you watched any of the gameplay videos, especially during E3 last week, then you might recognize these pictures as some of the loading screens during the gameplay, but without those pesky words in the way. Expect similar pics of the other recently announced fighters Cassie Cage and Kotal Kahn to follow.

Mortal Kombat X is due out later this year for both current and last generation platforms: PlayStation 3, PlayStation 4, Xbox 360, and Xbox One, in addition to Windows PC. The game will feature, according to Boon, "a ton of new, over the top characters."
