'Mortal Kombat X' Characters: Ed Boon Talks Bringing Back Old Favorites, Teases Jason Voorhees Of 'Friday The 13th' [VIDEO]

Is Friday the 13th's Jason Voorhees a Possible Character for Mortal Kombat X?

E3 2014 has come and gone, and Mortal Kombat X was easily one of the trade show's highlights. With four new character reveals coupled with peeks at their respective X-rays and fatality moves, it was more than enough to satiate the appetite. With E3 over, fans are going to the man behind MK directly via Twitter, and Ed Boon has been good enough to respond.

It's hard to do a Mortal Kombat game without Scorpion and Sub-Zero, but that's the tip of the iceberg (no pun intended) when it comes to the amount of old fighters that fans want to see grace the next game in the series. When asked about the possibility of seeing old fighters, Boon responded simply, "You will!"

Of course, that begs the question of "which" old favorites. Mortal Kombat: Armageddon exhibited the largest roster in the series with over sixty characters, which leaves quite the pool to draw from. And that's before you factor in any of the DLC or alternate versions of characters seen in the 2011 reboot. But while we're on that note...

MK Kreator Ed Boon Introduces Two More New Mortal Kombat X Kharacters, and Dishes Details

One of the more unusual characters to come out of the most recent MK title was Freddy Kreuger of "Nightmare on Elm Street" fame. While the series had more than its fair share of eclectic characters, Mortal Kombat had never messed around with guest spots from pre-established characters. But you can thank publisher Warner Bros. and its own reboot of "Nightmare" for that, hence MK players getting the Jackie Earle Haley version of Kreuger, instead of the more recognized Robert Englund version. Know what other iconic slasher property Warner Bros. has worked with before?

"Friday the 13th," and its hockey masked Jason Voorhees. With the date just passing, fans were curious about the possibility of Crystal Lake's worst breast stroker featuring in the next MK title. "More likely than a DC Hero," joked Boon.

While it doesn't seem like Boon is considering the concept, its not completely outside the realm of possibility. Here's why. For one thing, the timing just worked out for Krueger to feature in the last MK, and it might be the same case for X. Because the one thing you can count on Hollywood to do is absolutely pummel a dead horse. Ergo, despite how abysmal the last one was, there's yet another "Friday the 13th" movie in the works.

According to Deadline, the movie's release was pushed back to November of 2015, and thanks to things like DLC, and DVD releases, Mortal Kombat X's release doesn't have to line up exactly with the next "Friday" movie. The only factor that could be a monkey wrench is that Warner Bros. recently relinquished its rights over the film franchise to New Line, and now it seems as though Paramount is working on the next movie.

Whether or not it'll actually come together is up to Boon and a slew of legal eagles. Possible? Sure. Likely? I wouldn't hold my breath. The best thing to do is sit back, and watch some gameplay footage of the half dozen confirmed characters beat the holy hell out of each other in the video below.

Mortal Kombat X is due out later this year for both current and last generation platforms: PlayStation 3, PlayStation 4, Xbox 360, and Xbox One, in addition to Windows PC. It'll be the first game in the series that'll allow players to "choose from multiple variations of each character impacting both strategy and fighting style," and possibly even the story, but more on that as additional information comes to light.
