Warner Bros Interactive has certainly made their claim on this year's E3. From the moment you walk in, you will be greeted by a giant banner emblazoned with the Shadow of Mordor logo. Middle-Earth has come to the west coast. Today, a new trailer has been released and it seems like WB has been saving the best for, if not last, very close to it. The trailer outlines the much hyped about Nemesis system and I have to say, it is very, very intriguing to watch.
No Man's Sky May Have Just Won E3
Have you ever wondered what personalities the enemies in a game must have? As you mow through wave after wave of thugs or soldiers, don't you ever wonder if you've ever seen them before or if they know you? The Nemesis system brings your opponents one step closer to fully realized individuals by creating "personal interactions with your unique enemies. Every enemy will remember their encounters with you." How cool is that? It's an endlessly fascinating gameplay mechanic that I truly hope WB and Monolith can pull off successfully.
In addition to imbuing enemies with personality, the Nemesis trailer also goes into some more details about Talion's wraith ability, which allows the player to disrupt the forces of Sauron in many ways. You can pit orcs against one another in duels, send them on beast hunts or simply dominate them to your will. The end goal of the game is to use Sauron's own army against him to claim victory.
Metal Gear Solid V: The Phantom Pain Trailer Sneaks Out Of E3
What Monolith is attempting with the latest entry in the Lord of the Rings franchise is to be commended. They're taking the hack n slash nature of the games and expanding it to create a more dynamic world, a real world with both actions and consequences.
For folks at E3, you can head to the Warner Bros. Interactive Entertainment booth, we're showing our live theater presentation all day long, giving everyone a glimpse at the Sea of Núrnen, a new location in the game. For those, like me, who are not in attendance, Sony will be live streaming gameplay later today.
Middle-Earth: Shadow of Mordor hits shelves on October 28 for PC, PS4, PS3, Xbox One and Xbox 360. Check out the Nemesis trailer below!
