As hated as mega retailer GameStop is, the chain occasionally comes through in rare form. Not by offering deals on trade-ins, but with their lowly sales staff putting out marketing and promo materials a wee bit ahead of time. Case in point, there's a poster out in the wild showing the first glimpse of DLC for Assassin's Creed: Unity, and two characters involved in the game.

You can see the image above in lovely, grainy quality, courtesy of a tweet from CriptAssassini. The man in the iconic assassin hood is obviously the game's protagonist, whose identity has not yet been given. But the other guy is where it gets interesting. It's being surmised that the wig with the chemistry set is Antoine Lavoisier, better known as the "Father of Modern Chemistry," a man who made insurmountable achievements to the field, and other ho-hum things like naming oxygen and constructing the metric system.
What makes us so sure it's him? Well, the poster's "Chemical Revolution" mission alludes to not only the game's French Revolution setting, but an actual thing, of which Lavoisier was a central figure. The same year the French Revolution began, Lavoisier published a book that did for chemistry what Newton did for physics. But despite his contributions for the field, Lavoisier was one of the thousands who wouldn't make it through the period with his head attached.
With Unity's protagonist pictured alongside Lavoisier, it's to be expected the scientist is sympathetic to the Assassin's cause. But if you look closely, you'll notice that it appears as though the assassin is clutching something behind his back, just out of Lavoisioer's view, hinting that maybe the two aren't as close as it might appear. This would also illustrate the general confusion and chaos of the French Revolution, with major players seeming to be "good" one moment, and "bad" the next.
Hopefully Ubisoft will clarify what the hell is going on when E3 2014 kicks off next week. In the mean time, check out Assassin's Creed: Unity's sneak peek trailer below.
