The upcoming Xbox One and PS4 remakes of survival horror titles Metro 2033 and Metro: Last Light have been given a significant upgrade, according to Deep Silver, the game's developer. Expect things to be a bit brighter, or at least as bright as being in post-apocalyptic Moscow can be.
In an interview with Eurogamer, Deep Silver's brand manager Huw Beynon got into the technical details and differences between the original games and the upcoming remakes, citing that the new versions will be like "a true director's cut". Beynon was especially optimistic about the experience. In an interview with Gamerhub, he said that "It was really a once in a lifetime opportunity to come back and remake these games for next-gen. It was done in-house at 4A Games, and it's not often that a developer gets the opportunity to revisit some of their work."
The games will feature updated, crisper visuals and improved lighting and details throughout, allowing the player's to enjoy the designer's hard work a bit more. The games will run at a smooth 60fps, with the PS4 clocking in with 1080p support and the Xbox One version will be at 900p. Says Beynon, "we're quite pleased to get the [dev kits] in the studio and get it to 60fps." The games can run a system hard, even high end PCs and Deep Silver intends to utilize that. They're pulling the new build off the PC version of the game, allowing for more fluid controls and better textures, hopefully without any of the slowdown that can come with a huge game.

Gameplay wise, several of the levels have been merged together. Now the Russian subways are even more expansive, even more deadly. Eurogamer also reports that you will be able to play both titles either in the 2033 'Survival Mode' or the Last Light 'Spartan Mode'. Each will feature improved AI for all the underground dwellers still in the world.
The Metro games have been favorably received overall, with the preponderance of bugs and technical glitches being one of the factors truly making them great. The Redux versions look like they will go a long way to addressing those issues. Both games will be arriving sometime this summer for PC, PS4 and Xbox One via digital download for $24.99.
