After an 'is he/isn't he' day, it's finally been confirmed that Charlie Cox will don the red tights for Marvel Studios upcoming Netflix series, Daredevil. After show runner Drew Goddard left the production over the weekend, I am sure Marvel is glad to get the positive PR machine back up and running for the high profile production. The series will now be in the capable hands of Steven S. DeKnight, creator of the popular Spartacus series.
Latino Review had the scoop. Cox, who is best known stateside for his role in 2007's charming Stardust and for his supporting role in seasons 2 and 3 of HBO's Boardwalk Empire, will be playing Matt Murdock, the blind lawyer from New York City who gains super-hearing and uses his skills to fight crime. His main nemesis in the series has been Kingpin, a villain of sizable proportions.
Daredevil is one of four Marvel Studios properties coming to Netflix, alongside the as yet uncasted Jessica Jones, Iron Fist and Luke Cage. All four heroes are based around the Manhattan neighborhood of Hell's Kitchen and the four will team up for a special Netflix cross-over event titled The Defenders, of which the four are founding members of in the comics.
Guardians of the Galaxy Trailer, Movie Is Going To Be Awesome
The last time Daredevil was adapted for the screen was in 2003 starring Ben Affleck. It ended poorly for everyone, especially Coolio, who was cut entirely from the theater version! About the only successful thing about the movie was that it brought Amy Lee and her band Evanescence to the public consciousness. It's still a great song, and I don't care what you say about it!
Marvel is casting a wide web. The MCU is expected to last until at least 2028, and they are slowly building up their television entries. Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D, after a rocky start, was renewed for a second season on ABC, while Marvel has also ordered an Agent Carter series, about one of the founding members of S.H.I.E.L.D, also from ABC.
Rock out with your early 2000s self below.
