PlayStation 4 owners are facing their first big disappointment. The Order: 1886, the new action adventure from developer Ready At Dawn and slated for release this holiday season, has been delayed until "early 2015".
The Order: 1886 To Be Single Player Only
Though unsurprising, given the anticipation and energy put into developing the title, the delay puts a very sizable hole in Sony's 2014 holiday slate. Being a PS4 exclusive, The Order: 1886 was originally going to headline their entire Q4 line-up, and was hoping to be the first "must have" for the system in need of them. With the game now pushed back, it looks like we'll be catching up on Destiny.
The Order: 1886 was also going to be one of Sony's big moments at the upcoming E3 in June. Ready At Dawn will still be bringing some exclusive content and video, but with the release now pushed back closer to next year's E3, any goodwill it garners runs the chance of being exhausted by the time of release. Ready At Dawn gave no specifics for the delay, save for that they need the time to "fully realize their vision of the game."
The Order: 1886 Shows Off Alternate, Monster Filled Victorian London
The Order: 1886 is an action adventure game set in an alternate, far more steampunky London where the surviving members of the Knights of the Round Table (the titular 'Order') continues its eternal war on the forces of chaos and darkness. It was revealed at last year's E3 and immediately got onto everyone's radar. Influenced strongly by one of the best PS3 titles (and subsequently, one of my all time favorite games) Uncharted 2: Among Thieves, The Order: 1886 is definitely hoping to be the first major "killer app" for the PS4.
In anticipation of the upcoming E3, Ready At Dawn has released a behind the scenes developer video which goes into the history of this slightly off Victorian London and offers insight into the astonishing amount of detail that they put into creating London, its locations and even its costumes. Whatever the outcome will be next year, The Order: 1886 will not be lacking in attention to detail nor ambition.
Sony is certainly banking on it.
