3D printing's been all the rage lately. It seems like everywhere you look, someone is using the new tech to make something impressive, and for cheap. Likely taking inspiration from the headlines, developer Sledgehammer applied the concept to weaponry. As a result, one weapon players will get to use is capable of printing its own ammunition. How's it work, you ask?

As Game Informer, describes the process, "Players load in a canister of liquid matter and rack it by pulling back on the bolt. Once securely housed, the internal computer begins printing ammunition on the spot. Players can see the number of bullets created as a digital ammo counter increases. Sledgehammer is still tinkering with the fire rate and power of the 3D printer rifle, but it should dramatically reduce reload time."

Still not futuristic enough for you? OK then. Advanced Warfare is set some forty years in the future, so how about a plasma rifle? Sledghammer's got you covered. Writes GI: "Referencing D.A.R.P.A. (Defense Advanced Research Projects Agency) experiments and public military prototypes, this plasma rifle is among the more futuristic weapons we saw during our trip to Sledgehammer Games...In the sequence leading to the attack on the Golden Gate Bridge, players drive a high-tech SUV equipped with a turret that fires blue blasts, devastating other enemy vehicles. This smaller plasma rifle should be similarly effective against foot soldiers."

You can see that sequence in the Advanced Warfare announcement launch trailer below at the 2:20 mark. The GI article also goes into a bit more depth on the upcoming game's vehicles like the hoverbike, exosuit, and more, all of which we should get a closer peek at during this year's E3.

The next Call of Duty takes place in 2054, and Jonathan Irons (voiced by Kevin Spacey), CEO of Atlas, a monolithic private military corporation, has got it in his head that he can do a better job of running things than the nation's elected leaders. So, obviously, he begins a war against the government using his employees / guns for hire as his own personal army.

Call of Duty: Advanced Warfare is set to launch worldwide on November 4 for PC, PS4, PS3, Xbox 360, and Xbox One. Check out the announcement trailer below.
