There's been a sequel in development for the wildly popular MapleStory for several years, and we're now seeing the first gameplay trailer from publisher Nexon.
Pokemon X And Y Will Celebrate 100 Million Trades With Free Unique 'Fancy Pattern' Vivillion
MapleStory is a 2D MMO by South Korean developer Wizet that launched in the studios native country in 2003, North America in 2005, and Europe in 2007. Since then, it has gained a massive audience, passing 90 million users (with at least 9 million in the US alone).
MapleStory 2 has been in development since 2010, and will switch the game to a full 3D style. Combat, skills, and environments will have to be altered to switch engine types, all of which are shown off in the trailer below (which contains Alpha footage). Gameplay elements new to MapleStory (and driven by the change to 3D) are demonstrated in the video, including wall-climbing, swimming, and driving.
Ike Revealed As New Playable Character In Super Smash Bros. For Wii U And 3DS
MapleStory 2 does not yet have a release date, but a closed beta in Korea is planned for some time this year. An expanded beta for the rest of the world will follow, but Nexon has yet to announce details for that. An exact date for the global beta is much more likely to be announced after the Korean beta begins, so it may be a while yet.
Watching the jump for a franchise from 2D to 3D is always interesting, and with so many MapleStory fans around the globe, the new gameplay will probably be subject to a lot of scrutiny- check it out for yourself below.
