'It' Stephen King Movie Remake Changes Studios, Looks To Scar Another Generation Of Children

'It' Stephen King Horror Film Adaptation Changes Studios

The long rumored, oft delayed film adaptation of Stephen King's seminal novel It has, in a rare but wise move, shifted studios. Once a Warner Bros. property, the studio has since handed off the reins of the two-film adaptation to horror house New Line Cinema.

Most folks know New Line as "that studio that releases those damn elf movies every year", but back in the 80s, the studio was responsible for some of the most enduring classics of horror cinema, including the A Nightmare on Elm Street and Critters, which is absolutely a classic and don't let anyone tell you otherwise.

It is the very Stephen King-esque tale about a group of 1950s children who must contend with a shapeshifting monster (called 'It') that often takes the form of the vicious clown, Pennywise. Thirty years later, the children must band together once more to take on the supernatural horror again. The first movie will follow the group as children, while the second will follow them as adults. Both films will be updated for a more modern audience. No word if they will try and add supplemental material, such as stuff from The Dark Tower to pad out the story with a wholly unnecessary third film.

Director Cary Fukunaga, who helmed several episodes of the horror-laced True Detective earlier this year for HBO, was tapped in 2012 to direct the adaptation which had been stuck in development hell for five years.

A previous television mini-series adaptation, made in 1990, starring Tim Curry as the titular It continues to give people nightmares. Most of my fellow Millennials and young Gen Xers were scarred for life. I still hate clowns to this day. Mom, dad, why did you let me watch that? I know you didn't let me, but why didn't you stop me when I watched it anyways?

No casting or release date has been announced yet.
