'Middle-Earth Shadow Of Mordor' Gameplay Trailer: Rune Upgrade System, Dark Ranger Pre-Order Bonuses Revealed [VIDEO]

Middle-Earth: Shadow Of Mordor Shows Off New Rune System

Warner Brothers and Monolith Games have released the next in a series of videos for their upcoming action-RPG Middle-earth: Shadow of Mordor.

Mount Doom Featured In Middle-earth: Shadow of Mordor Alongside Other Iconic Locations

Using in-game footage, the video showcases the ways to upgrade main character Talion's weapons and abilities through use of Runes, which are special actions and enchantments gained throughout the duration of the game by defeating, mostly through decapitation and impalement, various foes. A new twist in the rune dropping mechanic is that Epic Runes, the most powerful runes available, are dropped only through the defeat of a Warchief, a sort of mini-boss whose minions you have to eliminate before killing the chief himself. Rather than the random drops of games past, Shadow of Mordor is going to make you work for it.

Players who pre-order will have access to special bonus content, such as the previously announced Dark Ranger bonus pack, and depending on where you pre-order from, you'll have access to exclusive runes. Steam players will receive the Orc Slayer rune, Amazon orderers will get to channel their inner Legolas with the Deadly Archer Rune and folks who order through Gamestop will have their stealth kills upped with the Hidden Blade rune.
