PlayStation 4 and Xbox One sales have been pretty strong out of the gate, but did you know how favorably they stood up to the launches of their predecessors?
Analysts Expect Xbox One Sales To Pass PS4's Due To Price Drop
According to NPD numbers, the PS4 and Xbox One have doubled the sales of the PS3 and Xbox 360 in the first six months of their lifetimes, reports Eurogamer. Microsoft happily posted on Xbox Wire that the Xbox One outsold the 360 by 76 percent out of the gate.
The attach rate for Xbox One is very good as well--three titles per console--but the numbers for last month are pretty underwhelming. The new hardware only moved 115k in April, which is worse than the Xbox 360 managed over any year for that period.
Nintendo Has 'Clear Idea' Of Next Console After Wii U
Software sales are looking very healthy overall in the industry, with Titanfall leading the way in April following its Xbox 360 launch. Combined software sales for PS4 and Xbox One are up over 40 percent compared to sales of the PS3 and Xbox 360 through their first six months according to NPD analyst Liam Callahan. The Xbox One and Xbox 360 accounted for 53 percent of all game sales in the US, with 447,000 and 2.2 million units respectively.
Eurogamer also notes that the Wii U sales are not given by NPD for the period, but that software sales have been healthy on the system. Nintendo's system is seeing a reported 80 percent increase over last year in title sales, and the upcoming releases of Mario Kart 8 and Super Smash Bros. should further drive both software and hardware sales.
