The Super Smash Bros. for Wii U and Nintendo 3DS details keep coming from Nintendo, ahead of the staggered releases of both versions while we wait for specific launch dates.
Check Out The Recap Of Last Week's Super Smash Bros. Announcements
We know the title will be out this summer on 3DS, and most likely this winter on Wii U, but it's seeming increasingly likely that we'll have to wait for this June's E3 for the exact release date.
What we will consistently see are daily updates from Nintendo on the game's official site. The last significant info drop came from a Nintendo Direct, below, which revealed several new characters and details. While the daily posts don't give as many details as that video did, rest assured that series director Masahiro Sakurai will show us something new from Super Smash Bros. with every update.
Nintendo Has 'Clear Idea' Of Next Console After Wii U
Today's reveal is a bit more low-key than some of the others, especially following yesterday's bombastic Charizard Fire Blitz attack. Sakurari has simply shown us a new trophy, (not a useable assist trophy item, just the collectible type), one that he has a personal fondness for. It's a trophy for a Pikmin character, pictured above, and here's what he had to say about it:
"Pic of the day. Here's one of my personal favorites, the trophy of Brittany from Pikmin 3. She won't be joining the battle, but her model and expression is well-designed."
Not exactly a new playable character, but it is something we haven't seen before. This is somewhat the result of one man choosing what to reveal each day--it's entirely up to him, despite some protest on the Miiverse forums to show something more exciting.
We've had a good amount of that, though, so it's hard to blame Sakurai for his choices. Keep checking back for more Super Smash Bros. news ahead of E3, which will hopefully include an early specific release date announcement.
