Rumors were swirling recently regarding a Nintendo hardware reveal planned for E3. According to CVG, who spoke with Nintendo, no such announcement will be made at this summer's conference.
CVG posted an article earlier today stating, "On Thursday reports emerged suggesting the corporation would announce a new platform, or a new iteration of a current platform, during the Los Angeles games event. But representatives for Nintendo told CVG on Friday that such a reveal is not under consideration."
The rumors of an upcoming reveal began when IGN's Peer Schneider claimed in a podcast that he had sources that told him of hardware Nintendo would be announcing at E3, according to CVG. His publication never ran a story on the information, however, suggesting that the sources were not reliable enough for IGN to be comfortable publishing it as news, or even as a rumor.
Further feeding into the speculation were reports from the site Video Gamer, which claimed to have attained similar information about an upcoming hardware reveal from a third-party source. These leaked tech specs were the basis for some of the speculation, but they are themselves unconfirmed.
A lot of this discussion undoubtedly has a good amount to do with Nintendo's hints about some sort of "quality of life" platform, which it referenced in its most recent financial report. No real details were given, but its mere existence is causing speculation, as you can see from all of these rumors.
However, it is not meant to be a traditional games platform. This could explain why Nintendo told CVG they would not be revealing hardware at E3, even if they do plan to show off this mysterious platform. I expect we won't know for sure until E3, which will be held in June.
