To celebrate Mega Man's first appearance in the upcoming Super Smash Bros., Nintendo and Capcom have announced that the entire Mega Man Game Boy Collection will hit the 3DS Virtual Console in May, along with two handheld Game Boy Color games. 'Mega May', they're calling it, and they have so many titles to release (six!) that they don't know where to start. So they brought it to a vote last month on Capcom-Unity, and the winner was Mega Man Xtreme.
Mega Man Xtreme was released for the Game Boy Color in 2001 in North America, a spin-off title from the popular Mega Man X series of games. That SNES series was itself a spinoff from the main series and introduced X, a new Mega Man robot that could upgrade his parts piece by piece, and perform a dash move. Xtreme plays much the same as the Mega Man X titles and reused music, stages, enemies and bosses from them as well, and as such wasn't critically received as well as its predesessors.
There are certainly better Mega Man Game Boy titles but no worries, we'll see them all hit the Nintendo 3DS during May. Every Thursday in 'Mega May' will see the release of more titles- Mega Man II, Mega Man III, Mega Man IV, Mega Man V and Mega Man Xtreme 2 will all be out this month, joining the NES and SNES titles already on the Virtual Console.
