GameStop Offering $1 Donations To Make-A-Wish During the Month Of May

If You're Shopping At GameStop Next Month, You'll Be Able To Help Out Make-A-Wish Kids With a Donation

Say what you will about GameStop's trade-in prices or business practices, but their work with the Make-A-Wish foundation is definitely a high point for the company.

(Full disclosure: I currently hold down part-time work at GameStop.)

That's set to continue during the month of May, as GameStop will be offering customers a chance to donate $1 with their purchase towards the foundation, which helps grant the wishes of kids with life-threatening illnesses.

GameStop announced the details via a press release on its site today, which gave the details of the promotion:

"GameStop and Make-A-Wish have a long standing relationship, where the world's leading video game retailer and more than 40,000 of its store associates have supported more than 1,000 video gaming and shopping spree wishes for wish kids. This year, in an effort to increase awareness and support for Make-A-Wish, GameStop has created an in-store donation program where all funds raised will go directly to granting the wishes of children with life-threatening medical conditions."

"We are honored to work with such a worthwhile charity, like Make-A-Wish," said Rob Lloyd, chief financial officer of GameStop and Make-A-Wish North Texas board member in the release. "Wish kids are such an inspiration to me personally, and I'm excited to be able to offer our loyal customers an opportunity to show their support for this great organization by giving to those children in need. The money we raise during the month of May will all go towards wish experiences, which have the potential to medically and psychologically change the lives of wish children forever."

GameStop is looking to raise $75,000 in the month of May, according to the release. This comes on the heels of the company partnering with St. Jude Children's Research Hospital during this past holiday season, offering a similar $1 add-on to purchases. GameStop has also offered Make-A-Wish gift cards in the past, donating a portion of all sales to the foundation.
