If you're not planning on moving up to a PS4 or Xbox One this year and still want to have some security with your Destiny purchase, fret not. It appears that Bungie has plans to make your PS3 or Xbox 360 saves transferrable to PS4 or Xbox One whenever you're ready to move up to a new console.
Polygon reports that during a recent press event (probably the one where different press outlets got to try the game out last week) Bungie investment lead Tyson Green gave some info about moving saves from your old system to your new system.
"We're interested in making sure that last gen character can move to next gen," he said. "A lot of people are going to buy Destiny on PS3 or Xbox 360 and then get a PS4 for Christmas. Don't tell me I wasted those last 100 hours there. So we're really interested in supporting that. Our longer-term platform plans, I couldn't speak to right now. But we don't want to lock people in."
That's actually pretty refreshing, considering the amount of games that came out for both 360/PS3 and One/PS4 last year and didn't offer that option (think ACIV: Black Flag and NBA 2K14, for example). But what about the people moving from Xbox to PlayStation, or vice versa?
"We don't have any plans to announce there right now," Green said regarding cross-platform game transferring. "Traditionally that's been restricted by the platform [holders] themselves. We'll just have to wait and see where they go with that."
So, that's basically a "no." Something tells me Sony and Microsoft won't be breaking their age old "no cross-compatibility" rules for Bungie and Destiny.
At any rate, that's very exciting news for people who haven't hopped on the next-gen bandwagon yet. Solid fan service from Bungie.
