The rise of roguelike games brought the worlds of various titles to the video game industry, including "Hades," "Risk of Rain," "Slay the Spire," as well as developer Motion Twin's "Dead Cells."

The latter is particularly noteworthy because it took the highly popular genre and took it to the next level when it was originally released in 2018. "Dead Cells" carries on the roguelike narrative of dying many times to strengthen your character little by little until they can complete the game in one run.

This guide gives out some tips and tricks that could prove useful for beginners who are relatively new to the roguelike genre. There are some recommendations here that could help you progress further than you could otherwise.

Be Patient

In the beginning, players will be met with simple enemies and mechanics that help them get into the groove of things. However, sooner rather than later, they will be met with challenging enemies and impassable obstacles, according to The Gamer.

This is where the beauty and the ugly of roguelikes come into play as you have to continuously face these sorts of situations throughout your adventures. But with every death, you will learn and become stronger to progress further with every run.

Try To Find The Collector

One of the most important NPCs in "Dead Cells" is The Collector, who is crucial in carrying your progress forward to complete the game. You can find The Collector waiting between biomes, which allows you to invest in upgrades, weapons, and mutations using cells you have accumulated through your runs.

This is how you make your character strong enough to tackle the entire game in a single run without dying and resetting.

Unlock General Improvements First

When you have a surplus of cells and don't have anything to buy from The Collector, you can opt to use the currency on other stuff instead. It is recommended to focus on upgrades that give you overall better chances of surviving and progressing farther, Polygon said.

Take Things Slow

Sometimes, players will get a feel for "Dead Cells" and start rushing their runs in order to get more cells, upgrade more stuff, and finish the game quicker. This can be detrimental as you can sometimes be put in a tight spot that makes it harder to survive.

Make Use of Ranged Weapons

One of the better ways to keep yourself safe is by attacking enemies from a distance, which is where ranged weapons come in handy. While there are enemies that can fire projectiles at you, being at a distance gives you more time to react and dodge accordingly.

Master the Rolling Mechanic

In "Dead Cells," being able to roll through enemy attacks and foes themselves gives you a tiny frame of invincibility, known as iFrames. This can be very useful if you find yourself being pushed to a corner with no way out except through enemies.

The fact that rolling gives you iFrames is another major benefit as you can completely avoid taking damage if you are fast enough and you get the timing right, according to Pocket Gamer.
