The co-CEO of PlayStation, Hideaki Nishino, spent some time during an interview to talk about the future of the PlayStation 5 console.
This comes as there have been recent discussions about cloud gaming and the potential disappearance of consoles altogether. Despite this, Nishino reassured fans that the company will still focus on hardware and providing support for the PlayStation 5 for years to come.
The Future of the PlayStation 5 Console
He added that there was no doubt right now that video game consoles will still be their center of business for quite some time. Nishino also confirmed that "the number of PS5 games is increasing rapidly. It is unlikely that this will suddenly change tomorrow."
This suggests that Sony is still committing to providing support for the PlayStation 5 console moving forward. It should also be noted that the number of PlayStation 4 games coming out recently could be proof of this.
However, the fact that Nishino himself confirmed that continued support for the PlayStation 5 console is something that many fans will find reassuring. He added that hardware will not disappear just yet from within the video game industry, according to Gaming Bible.

This could mean that consoles will still play a big part in the industry moving forward, especially with the rumors regarding the PlayStation 6. Nishino's comments also reassured players that more PlayStation 5 games will come in the future.
Nishino's comments also come as the video game industry is now ready for the next jump in quality between consoles to be much smaller. What this means is that the PlayStation 5 versions of various titles could still come much later in the future.
Gaming Consoles Obsolete?
There are many reasons why some people think consoles are becoming obsolete, including the fact that the current console generation started slow compared to previous eras. The PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X/S had low sales for a few years after they were released, Screen Rant said.
Another factor is that there was a global chip shortage that made it challenging for manufacturers to get the required items to make the consoles. This resulted in a scarcity of consoles worldwide and limited stocks that quickly sold out.
Many believe that Nishino and Sony's approach and focus on hardware are the correct decisions. While cloud gaming is growing at a rapid rate, the company itself is not trying to experiment blindly as it aims to offer a rich and immersive experience to players, according to Fandomwire.
