Ubisoft quietly launched a new NFT game known as "Captain Laserhawk: The G.A.M.E." that also features the mascot of the Rayman franchise.

The game's release was not announced by the "Assassin's Creed" creator on any of its platforms, including X, Instagram, or the official company news page. "Captain Laserhawk: The G.A.M.E." is a top-down multiplayer shooter for PC that also features "Rayman."

Ubisoft's Newest NFT Game

Some people speculate that the reason Ubisoft has been quiet about it is that it is a Web 3 game. This means that "Captain Laserhawk: The G.A.M.E." uses cryptocurrency and blockchain, which are somewhat controversial for a lot of people.

The game is not the studio's first foray around blockchain either, as its previous Web 3 gaming efforts went in a way that made the company somewhat hesitant to be public about new ones, according to Polygon.

When blockchain gaming was very popular in 2021 due to its sheer potential for profits, Ubisoft was calling the technology "an evolution of real-life possibilities in digital spaces." The company said that digital ownership could be transformative for the video game industry.

Fans also panned the company's early foray into crypto gaming when it started offering Web 3 guns and armor in late 2021 for "Ghost Recon Breakpoint." This allowed players to sell those items to other people using the blockchain, which was not a popular thing to do at that point.

Quietly Releasing Captain Laserhawk: The G.A.M.E.

The name of Ubisoft's newest game may also be familiar to some, as it is based on the Netflix animated series Captain Laserhawk: A Blood Dragon Remix. The show itself was based on "Far Cry: Blood Dragon" DLC for "Far Cry 3," IGN said.

Reviewing it as a game, "Captain Laserhawk: The G.A.M.E." is seen as your average battle arena shooter. Its only standout feature is the name that comes with being developed by Ubisoft, which has a storied time in the video game industry.

Even with how low the standards are for blockchain gaming, a lot of people considered "Captain Laserhawk: The G.AM.E." to be boring. It was said to have tedious gameplay, lifeless visual style and graphics, and zero innovative features.

It seems Ubisoft spent more resources to work on setting up the NFT part of the game than what it actually features. Another issue with it is that players are required to own an NFT in order to play it, according to 80lv.
