A new console update for PlayStation 5 that introduces a vast array of adjustments, changes, and improvements that are relatively useful.

The first major thing about the new update is that it improves the data-transfer process from another PlayStation 5 console. On top of this, it also includes so-called "enhanced stability" for large file transfers, such as video capture.

PlayStation 5 Firmware Update

The new console update for the PlayStation 5 also improves "usability" on some screens while making improvements to messages that could appear. Sony also shared the full patch notes for the latest firmware update on its official website.

The news comes as the PlayStation Plus Essential titles for December 2024 just came out this week and include the highly popular co-op game It Takes Two. It is also currently Sony's 30th anniversary celebrations where the studio released retro PlayStation 5 themes, according to Game Spot.

The main thing that the latest firmware update includes are changes that primarily affect people who bought a PlayStation 5 Pro. It makes the data transferring process between consoles much more seamless than before.

The messages being improved suggest that the latest firmware update could be the last one for the PlayStation 5 this year. Sony could be looking to put out a new patch similar to this that could further improve people's experiences on the PlayStation 5 Pro, Comic Book said.

Fixing Issues With Data Transfer

The studio did not go into detail regarding the reasons that caused previous problems with data transfers between PlayStation 5 consoles. The latest firmware update is sized at 1.3 GB, which suggests that the issue was not all that minor.

Many PlayStation 5 users previously complained about a variety of issues that they experienced trying to get their games and other data from their old system to the new upgraded console. Some people were able to fix the problems by tinkering a little bit with their PlayStation Plus settings.

This comes as you are required to have an active subscription in order to upload your data to Sony's cloud server. This is then something that you can redownload on a new console to transfer from an old unit.

Another option that people have when doing the data transfer is using an external drive. But if you are already paying for cloud services, you would most likely expect a company to be able to provide such a service without forcing you to resort to using another medium, according to Sports Illustrated.
