Square Enix's RPG Triangle Strategy was quietly removed from the Nintendo Switch's online store. The development came without so much as an explanation or reason.

The development comes as the 2022 game is still currently available for purchase on Steam. The studio confirmed in a social media post that it has become temporarily unavailable for Nintendo's handheld console.

Triangle Strategy Delisted From Nintendo eShop

Players who bought Triangle Strategy on their Nintendo Switch can still download and play it whenever they want. Square Enix did not provide any details regarding the decision. The studio also did not give a timeline on when it would be coming back.

Square Enix said that it was working on the situation. It would provide an update to the community when the game is once again available for purchase on the Nintendo eShop. This is a similar issue that was seen with Octopath Traveler in March 2024.

That particular game was also temporarily removed from the online store for a period of time as it switched publishers between Nintendo and Square Enix. This could suggest that a similar situation is happening with Triangle Strategy, according to Eurogamer.

Square Enix's strategy RPG was able to sell 800,000 copies worldwide in its first two weeks after launch. A quarter of the sales were sold in Japan and Asia alone, owing to the popularity of the genre in these regions.

Many players who were able to play Triangle Strategy described it as a rewarding game despite its relatively slow story and combat mechanics. Players who had patience in playing through the game were rewarded for their efforts.

A Potential Change in Publisher

Triangle Strategy was one of the best strategy games of 2022 and was considered a stunning HD-2D game. It featured a turn-based strategic combat system supported by a beautiful original soundtrack, Games Radar said.

Many fans are now speculating that the game is about to make a major reveal based on similar things that have happened in the past with other games. One user suggested that Triangle Strategy could be released to more platforms.

Triangle Strategy originally launched in March 2022 as a Nintendo Switch exclusive title before expanding to PC in mid-October 2022. It later reached out and released on VR platforms, specifically the Meta Quest 2, Meta Quest 3, and Meta Quest Pro, on Oct. 31, 2024.

Changing publishers for the strategy game is the reason that fans believe could result in the game getting versions on more platforms. When Octopath Traveler experienced a similar situation, it came out on PlayStation consoles six weeks after coming back to the Nintendo eShop, according to Game Rant.
