Activision is promising to conduct hourly sweeps to combat the rising number of cheaters in Call of Duty: Black Ops 6 following player complaints.

The publisher is supposedly trying to clean up the game's Ranked Play mode and leaderboards of players who are not playing fairly. Since the mode went live last week, Activision's Team Ricochet has made more than 19,000 bans.

Activision's Anti-Cheat System

On the other hand, Team Ricochet's AI systems are running in the background to conduct code optimizations to accelerate enforcement. It also expressed its gratitude to players for their patience as the team tries to fight against cheaters.

Call of Duty: Black Ops 6's highly competitive Ranked Play mode was made available on Nov. 21, 2024, to a mixed response from the community. Many people criticized the new mode because of how prevalent cheaters were.

One fan responded to Activision's latest post, saying that even if the publisher banned 19,000 accounts, 25,000 new ones were created. Another user said that this was the fourth year of hearing something like this, according to Eurogamer.

The publisher also said earlier this month that it worked to tune up Team Ricochet's detection systems prior to the release of Ranked Play. However, it seems like those changes were focused more on the "disruptive behavior" of players going AFK or using alternate accounts with the use of VPNs.

Activision boasted that the latest entry in the Call of Duty franchise was the biggest launch in the series. Call of Duty: Black Ops 6 apparently had the best total players, hours played, and number of matches played in its first month.

Rampant Cheaters in Call of Duty: Black Ops 6

Many people are comparing Team Ricochet with Valorant's anti-cheating system Vanguard. The latter makes it harder for cheaters to use tools such as aimbots and wallhacks. A developer of Riot Games' anti-cheat system talked about Activision's approach, 80lv said.

They said that they would have personally shifted away from using AI systems and taken advantage of a kernel-level driver. It was noted that this made it possible to detect cheats on a player's machine without needing a boot/start driver.

The prevalence of cheaters in Call of Duty: Black Ops 6's PC Ranked Play mode is forcing console users to turn off the cross-play feature. This was to avoid matching against cheaters that make playing the game not fun.

Activision has spent millions of dollars developing its anti-cheat technology and making efforts to win against cheat makers in court. Since then, the publisher has had a number of high-profile victories, according to IGN.
