Hasbro announced it is working on a new Dungeons & Dragons video game following the success of Larian Studios' Baldur's Gate 3.

The news was shared by CEO Chris Cocks who revealed that there is a fifth Dungeons & Dragons game that is being developed. Unfortunately, he did not share any additional details about the title, such as its genre or which studio is working on it.

New Dungeons & Dragons Game

What is known is that the new Dungeons & Dragons game is in active production. Cocks also revealed during the same interview that the new G.I. Joe game is now in pre-production. The former has had many video game adaptations over the years.

The most recent success for the brand was made by Larian Studios' popular narrative-driven RPG. Baldur's Gate 3 is the title that seemingly set Hasbro and Wizards of the Coast into a focus on the franchise.

It is also known that Invoke Studios is working on a AAA game based on the Dungeons & Dragons universe. There is also a survival RPG life simulator based on the franchise that is being worked on by Disney Dreamlight Valley dev Gameloft, according to IGN.

There seems to be a virtual reality Dungeons & Dragons game that is also coming sometime in the future for fans to enjoy. Demeo developer Resolution Games is the one that is developing a game that is also set in Faerun.

This has not yet been confirmed to be a recreation of the core Dungeons & Dragons experience in a virtual setting. There is also a co-op game based on the franchise that is codenamed Project Baxter being developed by Starbreeze.

Hasbro's Shift of Focus

Cocks took the helm of Hasbro in 2022 and under his leadership during the COVID-19 pandemic, the company enjoyed massive success. After the health crisis, Hasbro's sales dropped and it has since laid off more than 1,000 employees, Game Spot said.

The company also dedicated $1 billion to video game development before. Cocks said that roughly $100 million to $150 million would be spent on titles like Exodus. He explained that they want to be able to reach fans where they want to play.

Hasbro is reportedly looking for a way to add more digital collectability to Magic: The Gathering, similar to what Marvel Snap or Pokemon TCG Pocket does. The company is said to be willing to partner with a separate entity to work on Baldur's Gate 4, according to Screen Rant.
