Square Enix announced that a mobile version of Final Fantasy XIV is coming in the future as a collaborative effort with Tencent.

The reveal also came alongside a new trailer that showcased some scenes corresponding with sections of the base game A Realm Reborn. What fans know so far is that the mobile version of Final Fantasy XIV will have both combat and gathering and crafting jobs.

Other than that, however, there are no confirmed details about the mobile version, including how it plays, the differences between it and the PC and console versions, and others. The latest project is set to launch sometime in the future to all mobile devices, according to RPG Site.

The work on a mobile version comes as Final Fantasy XIV was released more than a decade ago and included a grand story in the universe that Square Enix created. The game features intense combat and will soon make its way to mobile devices.

The mobile version is said to be an exciting extension of the beloved franchise that will capture the immersive experiences that the original game gave to players. This will instead be given in a fresh, mobile-friendly format.

Extension of the Final Fantasy Franchise's Reach

Final Fantasy XIV getting a mobile version is the latest in a series of franchises that are coming to these platforms. It joins the likes of Diablo and Monster Hunter that have decided to extend their reach beyond just typical gaming platforms, IGN said.

Lightspeed Studios is under Tencent and is the one responsible for PUBG Mobile. It also recently hired Dragon's Dogma director Hideaki Itsuno to become a member of its team. This was part of the establishment of its Japanese studio.

Square Enix and Tencent also did not confirm whether or not the mobile version of Final Fantasy XIV will feature cross-progression or any of the expansions. What we do know is that Lightspeed Studios plans to maintain the original's lifestyle content, including fishing, Triple Triad, and Chocobo racing.

Producer and director Naoki Yoshida said that they also plan to implement non-combat features in the mobile version. These would include things like Disciples of the Land and Hand in order to have the game grow alongside its passionate community, according to Gematsu.
