The creator of Runescape, Andrew Gower, just released its newest MMORPG Brighter Shores in early access on Steam.
The new game aims to improve upon beloved features of the original tile-based adventure and innovates with a variety of mechanics and adjustments. The developer of Brighter Shores is Fen Research, which first announced the title in March 2024.
Brighter Shores Early Access
It was a relatively unknown project that surprised players, especially fans of the original Runescape game. Gower brings his expertise with him and adds a combination of combat, questing, crafting, and many other features in Brighter Shores.
The Runescape creator made Brighter Shores as an alternative MMORPG for players who are not able to invest a lot of time to progress their accounts. The game lets you level up the various professions while remaining idle and not clicking on anything in the game.
This means that people who are too busy to focus a lot of their time on a game can still make their characters stronger and experience Brighter Shores' deep lore. But even players who actually do want to go on the deep end and focus can still enjoy the game, according to MassivelyOP.

Brighter Shores still rewards players for completing various tasks and being highly active in activities such as combat and fishing. This lets them more efficiently level up their profession and unlock more of the world faster than those who simply go idle.
Gower's vision for the newly released game is that it will be rewarding whether players choose to be active or passive. Brighter Shores does not involve any pay-to-win elements and instead runs on a subscription-based system where more features are accessible by premium members.
A Variety of Features and Mechanics
The game is set in the world of Adothria where players will start off as a new recruit for Hopeport City's guards. You are later tasked with trying to save the world and defeating vile creatures while also helping citizens meet their needs, PCGamesN.
Brighter Shores has an episodic storyline where every chapter you unlock will let you explore a new region. The game also features a variety of professions such as alchemy and forager and a slew of powerful equipment to loot.
Gower initially plans for the early access period of Brighter Shores to last for about six months before it is released in full. Despite this, the game already has the majority of features that were promised with the full package, with the main things lacking being PvP and Player-to-Player Trading, according to DSO Gaming.
