Developer Cloud Imperium Games announced in a roadmap update that several features for Star Citizen's Alpha 4.0 will be delayed due to stability concerns.

Some of the highly anticipated gameplay features that were affected are Engineering, Life Support, and Fire Hazard gameplay. The situation is said to be a result of the development team focusing on Pyro and Server Meshing.

The latter features are the ones that will soon be available to all players but the others were pushed back to incremental 4.X patches. The news noted that the decision was made following a review of the support that would be required for the general stability of 4.0 with the main features.

The delay of the other deliverables was so that the team could free up necessary Engineering backwidth to prepare for the Alpha 4.0 launch. On top of the previously listed features, Fire Extinguishers, Charge and Drain, and Transit Refactor have all been delayed, according to MMORPG.

The developer said that it was aware that players were looking forward to a lot of the features that have been delayed. The studio reassured fans that they are still committed to bringing them to the game as soon as possible.

A lot of the gameplay components that were delayed were previously discussed in depth by the development team. The talks came in the months leading up to CitizenCon and during the event as well.

Delay of Various Gameplay Features

Following the announcement, many players quickly took to social media to share their reactions to the delay of the various gameplay features. Many of these talked about being disappointed by the developer's decision, MassivelyOP said.

One user said that the situation made them feel like it was in "expectation limbo" where their expectations are so low but they are still constantly disappointed. Cloud Imperium Games tried to reassure players that many of the features in Alpha 4.0 will move into Alpha 3.24.2.

These include vehicle MFDs and HUDs as well as additional customization for players' characters. The situation comes as Star Citizen was first released in a playable state more than a decade ago.

Cloud Imperium Games has raised more than $720 million in crowdfunding but the game has yet to come out in full. But the Alpha 4.0 update was set to bring massive changes that raised players' expectations of what the future has in store for the game, prior to the announcement of the delays, according to PCGamesN.
