All of Denmark Recreated in Minecraft

Whole of Denmark Created on 1:1 Scale in Minecraft

Sorry to be the bearer of bad news, but not only is your work in progress scaled model recreation of the U.S.S Enterprise in Minecraft not only wholly unoriginal, but it's now hopelessly and utterly dwarfed, and you have nobody to thank but Simon Kokkendorf and Thor Bjørn Nielsen, who've managed to recreate the entire nation of Denmark in Mojang's quintessential sandbox builder on a 1:1 scale.

To put that in perspective, that's over 16,600 square miles. While Denmark isn't as massive as Russia for example, or even Texas for that matter, coming in at 133 out of the world's 249 countries and dependencies by area according to Wikipedia, it still makes King's Landing from "Game of Thrones" look amateurish by comparison.

According to Danish Broadcasting Corporation DR, Kokkendorf and Nielsen used publicly available data from the country's Ministry of the Environment, and "translated" it into the heinously popular building sim, coming in at 4000 billion bricks taking up an entire terabyte of date. It probably would've been a lot easier if they had only waited until Minecraft 1.8 was out...

The motivation to recreate the sovereign state was far more respectable than curing boredom. Reports the outlet (pardon the translation):

"The idea of the project is among other, to give school pupils opportunity to move around in a 3D model of Denmark that can be used in both social studies, geography and much more - One can also use it in mathematics, where pupils eg will have the task to build a new playground next to the the school inside the Minecraft, with a specific number bricks available. At the same time one can also in Minecraft build to and remove bricks in the model, and low its own buildings, hills or roads - or change on the shoreline, if one is not satisfied with the beach."

The map is now available to download to anyone that's interested, and can understand Danish (the language, not the pastry).
