The project director for BioWare's Mass Effect franchise, Michael Gamble, said that the next game in the series will maintain photorealistic visuals.

The statement comes as the developer took on a new road for the graphics of its newest RPG Dragon Age: The Veilguard. Gamble posted on X after he was questioned regarding details for the next Mass Effect RPG.

Mass Effect 5 Update

The situation also comes after the video game community's rather warm welcome to Dragon Age: The Veilguard ahead of the RPG's release on the PlayStation 5. Gamble explained that while the two games come from the same studio, "Mass Effect is still Mass Effect."

Gamble also said that Mass Effect will still have the mature tone that fans experienced in the original trilogy. He also answered a fan by saying that the series will keep its photorealistic visuals as long as he is the one leading the development, according to Push Square.

One of the biggest talking points about Dragon Age: The Veilguard was its drastic change in graphics style. This was after the RPG was re-revealed earlier this year as it changed its name from Dreadwolf.

BioWare said that Dragon Age: The Veilguard was not the best that the studio was able to deliver at its peak. However, it argued that it is the company's most cohesive and emotionally engaging RPG since the launch of Mass Effect 3.

Gamble did not make any direct comparisons between Dragon Age: The Veilguard and Mass Effect. But a lot of people who were able to play the former in early previews said that the new look was actually one of the RPG's strong points, PCGamer said.

Photorealistic Graphics

Games in the Mass Effect series have traditionally been given a photorealistic vibe that took advantage of the technology of their time. The characters in the franchise have been rendered with realistic body proportions.

This left the developer some wiggle room to put a creative stamp on the technology. Producer Brenon Holmes previously confirmed that the fifth game in the Mass Effect franchise will make use of Unreal Engine 5.

The game engine is said to be capable of producing realistic graphics, including those seen in Marvel 1943: Rise of Hydra which is coming out in the future. The latest Mass Effect game is being worked on by many veterans of the series.

Gamble previously revealed that the original Mass Effect trilogy's executive producer, art director, creative director, and game director were coming back, according to Game Spot.
