Playtonic announced a remaster for Yooka-Laylee is under development. It will be available on modern-gen consoles and PC. It was also confirmed for a Nintendo platform.

The remaster will reportedly feature improved graphics and gameplay, an orchestral original soundtrack, and many more. It aims to deliver a complete rework of the original game's visuals to retell the journey of Yooka and Laylee.

The developer also noted that people who own the original Yooka-Laylee game on Xbox will get an owner's discount at the launch of the remaster. Playtonic reportedly gave Yooka-Laylee a "full visual upgrade" that covers nearly every single art asset in the game.

The studio also apparently worked on the user interface and HUD refresh for the beloved platforming game. Its world will become more populated compared to the original with new enemies, more collectibles to find, and challenges to complete, according to True Achievements.

Another thing that the developers added to the remaster is a brand new currency known as Q.U.I.D.S. that can be spent in-game in exchange for various items. The world map has also been overhauled and the helper Mark the Bookmark will act as a fast-travel system within levels.

Players will also notice that the double jump in the game has been removed. The two main characters will now jump the same height of the double jump with just one action. The studio said that these changes were made to provide a better gameplay experience for players.

Yooka-Laylee is the spiritual successor to various 3D platformers. These include Banjo-Kazooie and Spyro the Dragon. Some developers from the former also worked on the Yooka-Laylee game, Engadget said.

Various Adjustments and Improvements

Playtonic launched a Kickstarter campaign to successfully fund the development of the 2015 game by raising more than $2.5 million. Yooka-Laylee then came out two years later for consoles, PC, and Mac. It then got a sequel known as Yooka-Laylee and the Impossible Lair.

There was another noteworthy detail about the recent announcement. This was that the remaster seems to have been confirmed for the Nintendo Switch 2. This makes it the first officially confirmed title for Nintendo's next handheld console device.

The description of the game explains that players will be able to journey through an open-world 3D platforming environment. The studio said that the search for Pagies will begin again in Yooka-Replaylee.

This is the enhanced definitive version of the beloved game that includes new challenges, secrets, mechanics, and accessibility options to make the gaming experience even better, according to Gaming Bible.
