A new controller for Xbox consoles and PC, the HEART controller, aims to completely remove a very annoying and major issue, stick drift.

The new Xbox-licensed gamepad takes advantage of Hall effect technology to achieve this feat. Explaining it simply, a Hall effect sensor is a device that can detect magnetic fields. This lets it be used to create extremely longevous analog sticks whose central components are not in direct contact.

The latter would inevitably add to their wear and tear whenever they are used for prolonged periods. Instead, the shafts have small magnets attached to them that will move when the stick itself does.

When placed in a perpendicular position, Hall effect sensors near the magnets will then detect their positional changes. They then translate that to controller input in a frictionless manner. A majority of modern solutions for stick drift utilize two Hall effect sensors for every stick, according to Game Rant.

Thrustmaster, an American gaming accessory manufacturer, has now opted to make use of this technology in designing the new HEART Xbox controller. This particular gamepad incorporates Hall effect sensors. It promises to be completely immune to analog stick drift to maintain maximum precision over time.

The HEART acronym stands for HallEffect AccuRate Technology. This is what Thrustmaster itself is calling its very own implementation of the sensors. The HEART controller will be available for pre-order in early October 2024 and is priced at $99.99.

Stick drift has been one of the most annoying issues that players experience when gaming. It is when analog sticks register movement even if you are not touching them. This results in inaccurate gameplay and an overall less enjoyable experience, VP Esports said.

Eliminating Stick Drift

Because the HEART controller is fully licensed for Xbox, it seamlessly integrates with all Xbox titles and features. The device also has customizable buttons as well as a comfortable ergonomic design.

All of these make the new controller suitable for extended gaming sessions. Many people across the gaming community are excited about the HEART controller and what it could bring to the industry.

The reveal of the new controller comes as Xbox wireless controllers are on sale right now on Amazon for $52 down from $78. This offer is available for the astral purple color unit but other colors are also available at varying prices.

The controllers are compatible with Xbox Series X/S as well as the Xbox One device. Fortunately, PC players can also use it on their computers or mobile devices. They feature a record option that can help you capture amazing gaming moments, according to Express.
