Paper Mario: The Thousand-Year Door features a lot of playable characters that can join Mario on his adventures.

These characters are pulled from various areas and titles in the Super Mario franchise. Players will encounter them throughout their adventures and can partner up with them to fight against enemies.

Each of these partners has their own strengths and weaknesses so figuring out which one to accompany you can be a major game changer. You should familiarize yourself with each character's abilities to know what playstyle they go along with.

Goombella

Goombella is the first official party member that you will encounter in the game. You can meet with her as soon as you arrive at Rogueport at the start of the game. She is also helpful if you press the "X" button as she will usually provide useful hints, according to Nintendo Life.

She has several moves that you can use against enemies. Headbonk is a standard jump attack that will smack an enemy. Tattle will give you information on a particular enemy, including their HP number.

Next is Multibonk, which is a headbonk attack that will hit an enemy multiple times. Lastly, Goombella can use Rally Wink, which sacrifices her turn to let Mario get a second action.

Madame Flurrie

This particular character can be added to your party after you recover her necklace in the Boggly Woods area. She is able to create gusts of wind in the overworld that blow away nearby objects.

Madame Flurrie's moves include Body Slam where you can line up the reticle to let the character perform a body slam on the opponent. The game considers this a jump attack so you should not use it against spiked enemies.

Next is Gale Force, which summons a big gust of wind to blow away your opponents. One thing to note about this move is that it will remove fog on the battlefield. The third move is Lip Lock, which can drain an enemy's HP to heal Madame Flurrie herself. This also does not work on spiked enemies.

Lastly, Madame Flurrie can use Dodgy Fog, which surrounds Mario with localized fog that increases the character's evasion. This lets him avoid a lot of damage from attacking enemies.

Yoshi Kid

One of the stronger partners you can have in Paper Mario: The Thousand-Year Door is Yoshi Kid. This character can be found in Glitzville and is a solid fighter to help Mario on his adventure, The Gamer said.

Yoshi Kid can use Ground Pound on any enemy to deal respectable damage. His signature Gulp attack lets him swallow an enemy and spit them out to hit another foe.

The third move is Egg Toss which throws a series of eggs at enemies. While this attack only deals minor damage, it also has a chance to shrink the enemies that are struck. Lastly, there is Stampede which summons a stampede of Yoshis to decimate your foes.

Vivian

Vivian is another particularly powerful choice as a partner in the game and is a very strong attacker. This character initially appears as an antagonist as she tries to hypnotize Mario for nefarious purposes.

But she later recognizes Mario's kindness when they meet in Twilight Town and she joins your party. Vivian's first move is Shade Fist where players have to press button prompts to punch enemies. This can also leave foes burned to deal damage over time.

The second attack is Veil, which grabs Mario and pulls him into the shadows. This makes both characters immune to enemy attacks for a single turn. Third is Fiery Jinx, which can damage a group of enemies at the same time, according to Screen Rant.

Lastly, Vivian can use Infatuate, which targets all enemies and hits them with a kiss attack that has a chance to confuse them.
