Guerilla Games is reportedly working on an online Horizon game as its next project. It was also noted that a third mainline game could be "a way off."
The claims were made by Bloomberg reporter Jason Schreier during a recent Spawn Wave podcast. That was where he discussed the Sony studio's plans for its flagship series and what they could do moving forward.
Online Horizon Game
Schreier said that Guerilla Games' next product is "Horizon Online" and not a third mainline game as a single-player title. He added that there are a lot of people who are working on the supposed live-service Horizon game.
The studio announced in December 2022 that it was working on an online game that was set in the Horizon universe. It was said to feature "a new cast of characters and a unique stylized look," according to the Video Games Chronicle.
But since then, there has been little information shared with the public regarding the project and Sony has not confirmed a launch window for it. Fans are somewhat worried as the latter has experienced significant teething issues with its push into the live service games market.

Some of the problems that it has experienced include the cancellation of The Last of Us multiplayer game. Sony's latest hero shooter, Concord, was already shut down only two weeks after it was released.
The news about Guerilla Games working on an online Horizon game comes as the Horizon Zero Dawn remaster was recently confirmed. There is also the Lego Horizon Adventures that will be coming out soon, IGN said.
Upcoming Games in the Franchise
Schreier also questioned the studio's strategy, noting that if any of these two games hit, players could show that there is not much demand for an online game from the franchise. Sony's decision to work on live service games stems from the success of Arrowhead Game Studios' Helldivers 2.
The game quickly became the fastest-selling PlayStation Studios game of all time. But then Firewalk Studios' Concord became a commercial flop. Newcomers in the market are finding it more and more difficult to be successful with their own titles.
The news comes as the Horizon Zero Dawn remaster is set to launch for PlayStation 5 and PC on Oct. 31, 2024. It will feature improved visuals and many other new features to justify the upgrade.
On the other hand, Lego Horizon Adventures is a family-friendly spin-off that retells the original story in a way that is designed for a younger audience, according to WCCFTech.
