PlayStation 1 classic Dino Crisis will be coming to modern consoles. It will become playable on PlayStation 4 and PlayStation 5 before the end of the year.

The news comes as a welcome surprise to fans of the franchise. Sony has been making a more concentrated effort to port over older titles to current-generation hardware. This affected other PlayStation 1 titles such as Twisted Metal and The Legend of Dragoon.

Dino Crisis on PS4 and PS5

Dino Crisis was originally released for the PlayStation 1 in 1999. The game is a survival-horror title that Capcom made. It was worked on by the same team behind Resident Evil. Instead of zombies, however, Dino Crisis features prehistoric beasts.

The first game then spawned many more sequels over the years. But the last one was Dino Crisis 3 which came out in 2003.

The massive time gap is one of the biggest factors for the demand of many fans. They are requesting for the series to make a comeback on modern platforms, according to Comic Book.

Capcom's decision to port Dino Crisis to modern hardware means that the game will become accessible to a lot more players. This could later result in the studio doing something completely new with the franchise if the port becomes successful.

Despite the announcement, there is very little information about what fans could expect with the port of Dino Crisis. The studio has not yet disclosed an official release date. But the game is set to join the PlayStation Plus "Classics" catalog for Premium subscribers when it launches.

Other than this, Dino Crisis coming to modern hardware will mean some new video and gameplay features along with trophy support. This is the same thing that was seen with other PlayStation 1 re-releases over the past few years.

A Scalier Resident Evil

The original game gave Resident Evil director Shinji Mikami a chance to dive deeper into delivering new kinds of fear. He was also able to make new ways for players to handle obstacles, Games Radar said.

While Dino Crisis differed from Resident Evil in a few ways, it also had many aspects that many modern players might find archaic or outdated. An example of these is "tank controls." This is a system that was used by a lot of games in the 1990s.

The story of the original game follows special operations agent Regina. She was part of a team that was tasked to investigate a research facility on a particular island.

They then discover that dinosaurs have run amok. They must now find a way to survive and uncover the secrets of what led to the situation, according to Siliconera.
